Dissolved Air Flotator

Overview

Dissolved Air Flotator (DAF)

The dissolved air flotator (DAF) is one of the most efficient solutions for industrial wastewater treatment and is widely used to remove suspended solids, oils, greases and other contaminants from water.

This system is essential for companies seeking greater treatment efficiency, organic load reduction and compliance with environmental standards, ensuring a more stable, economical and reliable process.

Linsul develops dissolved air flotation systems focused on high performance, robustness and durability, serving different industrial segments with custom solutions.

How the dissolved air flotator works

The dissolved air flotation system works by saturating water with air under pressure, generating microbubbles that are highly efficient at separating particles.

When released into the flotation tank, these microbubbles attach to the suspended solids, oils and greases in the wastewater, reducing their density and making them rise to the surface.

This process allows efficient removal of contaminants, resulting in higher-quality treated water and a more efficient industrial wastewater treatment system.

The efficiency of the DAF flotator is directly related to the quality of microbubble generation and the correct sizing of the system, factors in which Linsul stands out.

Manufacturing process

Linsul dissolved air flotators are manufactured with a focus on precision, durability and performance.

Modern equipment and advanced manufacturing techniques are used during production, ensuring high quality in all components.

The materials used, such as AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel, ensure high corrosion resistance and a longer service life, even in aggressive environments.

In addition, the systems can be customized to meet the specific needs of each operation.

Applications

The DAF flotator is used in many industrial segments and is mainly recommended for processes that require highly efficient particle separation.

The main applications include:

  • Industrial wastewater treatment
  • Food and beverage industry
  • Meatpacking and protein processing

  • Wastewater treatment plants (WWTP)
Microbubble generation

First of all, the wastewater treatment system using the Dissolved Air Flotator has the sole function of floating the suspended materials. Microbubbles are injected at the bottom of the equipment, creating an upward flow of solids to the surface, where a layer of floated sludge forms and is then removed by the scraper blades of the dissolved air flotator.

The Dissolved Air Flotator is highly efficient thanks to its high-quality microbubble generation system, produced by the Linsul multistage microbubble pump. This provides greater floc adhesion, separating the suspended microparticles. Without a doubt, the microbubble pump is the main component of the Dissolved Air Flotator, as it is responsible for separating the suspended microparticles from the wastewater. As a result, it requires low chemical dosing, such as coagulant and polymer, while reducing operating costs compared to traditional Dissolved Air Flotators on the market.

Linsul designs the microbubble pump to generate microbubbles 5 to 10 µm in size, the Flotator's greatest differentiator, with microbubble generation capacities of 3 to 120 m³/h to serve flotators operating from 2 to 500 m³/h. For dissolved air flotators with capacities above 250 m³/h, double and triple microbubble generation systems are available.

Scraping system

The sludge scraping system of the Dissolved Air Flotator allows the height and speed of the scraper blades to be adjusted. This makes it possible to achieve the desired sludge thickening, with suspended solids concentrations from 2 to 8%. The DAF Flotator therefore has the advantage of adjustable sludge thickening, reducing the volume of sludge generated and making sludge dewatering easier, since a smaller machine capacity is needed for dewatering.

The sludge generated in the Dissolved Air Flotator is sent to the sludge dewatering stage, in order to reduce solid waste and considerably reduce disposal costs. In conclusion, the sludge is dewatered with the Linsul Disc Dewatering Press, a highly efficient piece of equipment with low electricity consumption.
