Animal Rendering
Water and wastewater treatment for the animal rendering industry.
Technologies for wastewater from animal by-product processing, with attention to fats, proteins and concentrated loads. Solutions integrated with rendering plant operations and sludge management.
Water and wastewater treatment in animal rendering
Animal rendering turns by-products into meals and fats through receiving, cooking and separation processes. Water is used to clean equipment and facilities and, depending on the plant, in condensation and emission control systems.
Washing and process condensates can generate streams with fats, proteins, solids and nitrogen compounds. Their concentration varies with the incoming raw material, cooking conditions and cleaning procedures.
Wastewater treatment at rendering plants must assess these streams individually, considering temperature, organic load, nitrogen and storage conditions before the WWTP.

Main challenges in this segment
Technologies for treating effluents with high organic load, contributing to safer and more sustainable operations.
High fat concentration
Fatty material carryover can impair pumping, solids separation and biological treatment.
Process condensates
Condensate streams can add organic and nitrogen load without carrying a large amount of visible solids.
Raw material variation
The origin, composition and condition of the by-products change the characteristics of the wastewater during operation.
Degradation and odors
Organic residues remaining in pipelines and tanks create conditions that call for careful handling and odor control.
Separate fats and treat the dissolved load
There is no single line for all rendering plants. Cleaning flows, condensate composition, fat content, temperature and nitrogen load influence treatment selection.
Screening and flotation can remove solids and fats before the biological stage. Equalization should consider stream mixing and reactor feed conditions.
Dissolved organic matter and nitrogen need specific assessment: removing fat does not automatically eliminate these loads. Treatment may incorporate biological processes and biomass separation, with thickening and dewatering of the sludge generated.
Integrated water, wastewater and reuse
The water balance should distinguish supply water, cleaning wastewater and streams associated with cooking and condensation.
Reuse in animal rendering depends on the quality obtained and its compatibility with the application, including a sanitary assessment. Controlling solids through filtration does not replace checking dissolved contaminants, nitrogen compounds and the storage conditions of the treated water.
Technologies for animal rendering
Linsul's solutions make it possible to build stages for solids, fats, biodegradable load and sludge. The selection should consider the characteristics of the condensates and washing streams of each rendering plant.
