Agribusiness
Water treatment, wastewater and reuse for agro-industrial processing.
Technologies for processing grains, fruits, vegetables and other farm raw materials. Solutions sized for seasonality, washing and the characteristics of production residues.
Water and wastewater treatment in agribusiness
Agribusiness includes the receiving, washing, processing and transformation of agricultural raw materials. Water demand depends on the product, on whether there is wet processing and on cleaning routines.
Streams may contain soil, sand, peels, fibers, pulp, starches, sugars and oils, depending on the raw material. Harvest periods and changes in the condition of the incoming products alter the amount of solids and the organic load.
Agro-industrial wastewater treatment must consider each production chain. Dry grain operations, vegetable washing and wet processing do not require the same WWTP configuration.

Main challenges in this segment
Solutions for effluent from the processing of grains, fruit, milk and other farm products, with high organic load and suspended solids.
Sand and soil from raw materials
Mineral solids from washing can cause abrasion and build-up in pumps, pipes and tanks.
Peels, fibers and pulp
Plant residues require separation suited to their particle size and flow behavior.
Harvest seasonality
Flow, load and operating time vary with the harvest and the processing capacity.
Organic load from processing
Sugars, starches and other dissolved components need treatment beyond solids removal.
Treatment starts with the characteristics of the raw material
The choice of stages depends on the product processed, the presence of wet processing, the washing flow and the harvest schedule. Mineral and vegetable solids must be distinguished in pretreatment.
Screening and grit removal may come before equalization. Flotation or settling is assessed for the separable fraction, while biological processes handle the dissolved biodegradable load where applicable.
Start-up after low-production periods must be considered in biological operation. Sludge treatment must account for fibers, organic matter and mineral solids, with conditioning and dewatering defined according to tests.
Integrated water, wastewater and reuse
Water planning connects supply, raw material washing and wastewater treatment. Separating streams with different profiles makes it easier to assess water recovery alternatives.
Reuse in agribusiness depends on the required quality and the sanitary compatibility of the application. Filtration and ultrafiltration may be part of the treatment, without assuming suitability for food contact or irrigation just because particles have been removed.
